Welcome to Hogwarts

I was am a big fan of Harry Potter.

To be truthful, at first when I was given the first two books as a gift, I was a bit dubious about the concept of story about a boy wizard and they were unceremoniously discarded. However, it did not take long for a rainy day to come along and nine year old me had no option but to give it a go. Oh, it must have taken all of ten pages before I was totally engrossed. By the time I had finished the first two, Prisoner of Azkaban had been released and the rest, as they say, is history. Come to think of it, I wasn't actually that keen on the movies at first either, being one of these annoying people who says "Hey, that's not what it's like in the books!" Over time I began to appreciate them for what they were, became quite fond of them and was even booking tickets for the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 when I was travelling, now that's dedication.

So, when the Warner Brothers Studio Tour opened its doors I was itching to visit. In July this year, I finally got my letter from Hogwarts (read: Mum, brother and I bought tickets for the family for Dad's birthday) and off we popped to London.

If, like me, you don't want to see what it's like til you visit yourself then look away now! Although it's nothing you've not seen before!

Representin' my Ravenclaw roots. I know everyone wants to be a Gryffindor, but I have no doubts about where the Sorting Hat would have placed me. Mum, who is not a Potter fan, did not understand when I tried to explain to her the House system and how I know she is a Hufflepuff.

No biggie. Just hanging out in the actual Great Hall!

I realise that with a degree in Chemistry, I probably would have done quite well in Potions...but I'm not sure I'm happy about that!

Butterbeer is... a bit like a creamy drinkable Werther's Original. Absolutely delicious, but I could only finish about half the glass! Also, I'd like to note that I am outside in a vest top and skirt...this makes me long for summer a little bit!

Chapped for the Dursleys. No one home.

The end of the tour brings you to the model of Hogwarts. I say model, but it is huge. The music playing as you walk around the castle and the sheer scale and detail of the model combine to create a real atmosphere.

From now until the 12th January, it is Christmas at Hogwarts. I think all this means is that the castle has been covered in snow, but I think this will make it even more magical so if you were planning to go the Studio Tour now might be a good time!

I won't ask if you're a Harry Potter fan because I'm assuming if you've made it this far you are, so instead I'll ask: What house would you be?

  3. Ahh looking at your pictures makes me want to go back so so much!

I thought for sure I'd be a Ravenclaw but I was sorted into Gryffindor on Pottermore and the more I think about it, the more I'm not so sure I'd be able to answer the riddles to get into the Ravenclaw common room! I don't fancy the thought of having to stand around outside until someone else went in!

    1. You know, I'd almost forgot about the riddles! That's a very good point... Haha. Pottermore did sort me into Ravenclaw though so it must be right :P

  6. Can confirm this place is amazing, although the Butterbeer wasn't as good as I thought it'd be.

    Hmm maybe...

    1. I think it was better than I'd expected, purely because I'd heard from several people who'd been that they really hated it, so from that point of view I thought it was ok but definitely no comparison to how I imagined when I read the books!
